Production Positions

We hire production-related positions for several shows each season. These positions include Guest Directors, Music Directors, Choreographers, Accompanists, and Stage Managers.


We are currently accepting applications for the upcoming 2025-2026 Season. You can find all positions listed below.

  • Choreographer - FINDING NEMO, JR.

    Salary: $500


    Auditions: May 28, 2025 (Choreographer need not attend)


    Show Dates: June 10-13, 2025


    Purpose of Position: Create choreography for all numbers as discussed with the production’s director, and lead choreography rehearsals for actors in productions of musicals


    Reports to: Production Director


    Supervises: Actors aged 8-16


    Hours: Independent time spent preparing choreography before rehearsals begin. Morning choreography rehearsals as scheduled with the production director, generally weekdays 9:00 am - Noon. Additional rehearsals as needed.


    Primary responsibilities: 

    • Coach the actors in learning the show’s choreography, created in advance. This includes conducting rehearsals with individual performers as well as with the entire company, as scheduled
    • Work with the director to create an efficient and productive rehearsal schedule, making good use of actor’s time when they are at rehearsals
    • Work with production accompanist and/or rehearsal tracks to teach choreography
    • Coordinate with the director and music director when making any cuts to the music. Consult with director about any substantial changes in the score, such as cutting a large section from a number, or adding/removing characters from numbers, etc. 
    • Treat actors and volunteers with respect, making sure those connected with the production have a positive experience
    • Strive for high production standards, making the show the best it can be

    Purpose of Position: Lead music rehearsals for actors aged 8-16


    Reports to: Associate Artistic Director, Stars of Summer production director


    Supervises: Rehearsal accompanist, youth actors


    Hours: Independent time spent preparing before rehearsals begin and crafting rehearsal schedule. Morning music rehearsals as scheduled with the production director, generally weekdays 9:00 am – Noon. All tech week rehearsals and performances.


    Primary responsibilities: 

    • Coach the actors in learning the show’s score. This includes conducting music rehearsals with individual performers as well as with the entire company, as scheduled
    • Work with the director to create an efficient and productive rehearsal schedule, making good use of actors’ time when they are at rehearsals
    • Attend all rehearsals deemed necessary by the director, Associate Artistic Director, and yourself
    • Lead cast, or designate someone to lead cast, in vocal warm-ups prior to each performance
    • Coordinate with the director and choreographer when making any cuts to the music; communicate these changes with musicians. Consult with director about any substantial changes in the score, such as cutting a large section from a number, or adding/removing characters from numbers, etc. 
    • Participate in auditions, including having an audition accompanist available and working with the director on casting decisions.

    Show Dates: July 10-13, 2025


    Purpose of Position: managing and supervising 40-60+ children, assisting the director with rehearsals, preparing handouts, and any other duties appointed by the Stars of Summer Director or Community Players staff.


    Reports to: Production Director, Associate Artistic Director


    Supervises: Youth actors ages 8-16


    Hours: Rehearsals for Stars of Summer will be held M-F 9:00 am - Noon, starting June 2 and ending with the final performance on July 13. Stage Managers may be asked to come 1⁄2 hour early and/or stay 1⁄2 hour after rehearsals.

  • Accompanist - HADESTOWN: TEEN EDITION

    Salary: $500


    Auditions: June 9-10, 2025


    Show Dates: July 31-August 3, 2025


    Purpose of Position: Accompany on piano all performers for the duration of rehearsals and performances


    Reports to: Music Director, Production Director


    Supervises: Volunteer actors


    Hours: Independent time spent practicing music. Evening rehearsals as scheduled with the music director and production director, generally weekdays 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Orchestra rehearsals as scheduled. All tech week rehearsals and performances.


    Primary responsibilities: 

    • Accompany all music rehearsals and/or rehearsals where songs will be sung. This includes playing for individual performers as well as the entire company, as scheduled
    • Work with the music director and production director as needed
    • Participate in auditions, playing any music brought in by auditioning actors or provided by the theatre
    • Play for all scheduled performances of the production 
    • Treat actors and volunteers with respect, making sure those connected with the production have a positive experience
    • Strive for high production standards, making the show the best it can be

    Hours: Independent time spent preparing before rehearsals begin and crafting rehearsal schedule. Evening music rehearsals as scheduled with the production director, generally weekdays 7:00 - 10:00

    pm. Orchestra rehearsals as scheduled. All tech week rehearsals and performances.


    Primary responsibilities:

    • Conduct, or find someone to serve as conductor, during performances
    • Lead cast, or designate someone to lead cast, in vocal warm-ups prior to each performance

    Hours: CP rehearsals generally take place on weekday evenings 7-10:00 p.m. The exception is tech week, when rehearsals may take place on Saturday or Sunday and may extend past 10:00 p.m. if necessary. Stage Manager shall arrive at least 30 minutes prior to all rehearsals, and should be present at all rehearsals unless otherwise informed by the director.


    Rehearsal responsibilities:

    • Assist the director in preparing the stage for scene(s) to be rehearsed
    • Call or locate actors that are late, missing, or inexcusably absent
    • Keep rehearsals running smoothly and on schedule; maintain order backstage
    • Notate all blocking given to actors
    • Disseminate information, notes, and schedule changes to actors and crew
    • Read parts of actors that may be absent from rehearsal and prompt actors as needed
    • Serve as the general assistant to the director
    • Complete daily rehearsal reports on Virtual Callboard
    • Ensure that the building is locked and equipment is off at the conclusion of rehearsals

    Performance responsibilities:

    • Create sign-in board, check that all actors are present, call any that are not present by warmups
    • Sweep and/or mop set and auditorium floor prior to warmups; ensure that house lights above stage are unscrewed
    • Lead warmups prior to shows if director is not present and no other has been selected to do so
    • Run light and sound check with board operators to make sure all equipment is functioning
    • With ASM, ensure all furniture, props, etc. are set
    • At 30 minutes to curtain, tell ASM that house is open. Give updates at 15, 10, and 5 minutes; then, at 2 minutes to curtain, have ASM give actors “places.” Give similar updates during intermission. Do not begin Act I or Act II without the go-ahead of director, CP Staff, or House Manager
    • Call cues and run any required equipment in booth; Stage Manager may work with various board or spotlight operators, or run the production solo
    • Post show, shut down light and sound systems, check for damaged props or costumes; store food items as necessary, and ensure backstage and green room are orderly and clean

    Salary: $1,500


    Auditions: Feb. 23-24, 2026


    Show Dates: April 10-12 & 17-19, 2026


    Purpose of Position: Direct a single CP production, working with actors and designers to bring their vision to life and maintain consistency with other organization productions


    Reports to: Managing Artistic Director


    Supervises: Production actors and stage managers


    Hours: CP rehearsals generally take place on weekday evenings 7:00 - 10:00 pm. The exception to this rule is tech week, when rehearsals may take place on Saturday or Sunday and may extend past 10:00 pm if necessary. Director shall arrive at least 15 minutes prior to all rehearsals. Additional hours may be required to complete job requirements.


    Primary responsibilities: 

    • Audition and cast production 
    • Direct production, working with actors to expand their knowledge and understanding of theatre 
    • Coordinate with production designers and crew heads to achieve an overall vision for the production; attend all production meetings (usually bi-weekly on Tuesdays) for the show
    • Create a rehearsal schedule that makes effective use of the time and talents of volunteers 
    • Work with production stage managers to ensure important notes or messages are distributed to production team members and cast via Virtual Callboard
    • Treat actors and volunteers with respect, making sure those connected with the production have a positive experience
    • Strive for high production standards, making the show the best it can be

    Secondary responsibilities: 

    • Complete and submit required program information (director’s notes, bio, etc.) by deadline 
    • With stage manager(s), be responsible for locking and turning off equipment in the facility at the conclusion of rehearsals 
    • If no member of the regular CP staff is present, serve as the organization’s official representative for emergency purposes
    • Follow all other organization policies and procedures

    Purpose of Position: Assist the director as needed, ensure smooth rehearsals, and coordinate and run technical aspects during performances 


    Reports to: Production Director


    Supervises: Assistant Stage Manager, volunteer actors

    • Work with the director to create an efficient and productive rehearsal schedule, making good use of actor’s time when they are at rehearsals

    • Potentially participate in auditions, if the show will be particularly dance-heavy; most Community Players auditions do not require this

    Supervises: Assistant Stage Manager, volunteer actors


    Hours: CP rehearsals generally take place on weekday evenings 7-10:00 p.m. The exception is tech week, when rehearsals may take place on Saturday or Sunday and may extend past 10:00 p.m. if necessary. Stage Manager shall arrive at least 30 minutes prior to all rehearsals, and should be present at all rehearsals unless otherwise informed by the director.


    Rehearsal responsibilities:

    • Assist the director in preparing the stage for scene(s) to be rehearsed
    • Call or locate actors that are late, missing, or inexcusably absent
    • Keep rehearsals running smoothly and on schedule; maintain order backstage
    • Notate all blocking given to actors
    • Disseminate information, notes, and schedule changes to actors and crew
    • Read parts of actors that may be absent from rehearsal and prompt actors as needed
    • Serve as the general assistant to the director
    • Complete daily rehearsal reports on Virtual Callboard
    • Ensure that the building is locked and equipment is off at the conclusion of rehearsals

    Performance responsibilities:

    • Create sign-in board, check that all actors are present, call any that are not present by warmups
    • Sweep and/or mop set and auditorium floor prior to warmups; ensure that house lights above stage are unscrewed
    • Lead warmups prior to shows if director is not present and no other has been selected to do so
    • Run light and sound check with board operators to make sure all equipment is functioning
    • With ASM, ensure all furniture, props, etc. are set
    • At 30 minutes to curtain, tell ASM that house is open. Give updates at 15, 10, and 5 minutes; then, at 2 minutes to curtain, have ASM give actors “places.” Give similar updates during intermission. Do not begin Act I or Act II without the go-ahead of director, CP Staff, or House Manager
    • Call cues and run any required equipment in booth; Stage Manager may work with various board or spotlight operators, or run the production solo
    • Post show, shut down light and sound systems, check for damaged props or costumes; store food items as necessary, and ensure backstage and green room are orderly and clean
    • Submit a performance report on Virtual Callboard
