Hadestown: Teen Edition


Auditions: June 9 & 10, beginning at 7 PM with callbacks on June 11th if needed


Casting: 2 men, 5 women, 1 flexible, and 6-15 ensemble roles of any gender. Genders are as defined by the playwrights. Community Players takes an inclusive stance towards casting.


Production dates: July 31 - August 3, 2025. An additional performance may be scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd and a second weekend may be added depending on cast availability.

 

What to do: Those auditioning will be asked to prepare a 16- to 24-bar cut of a musical theatre selection of your choosing. Please bring sheet music or upload it in the audition form, as an accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning will also be asked to read a cutting from the script. These will be spoken lines that are traditionally sung in the production. There is no need to sing your show-cutting during the audition.

About   the   show:  Following the two intertwining love stories of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone, Hadestown is a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by American folk and vintage jazz, this beguiling musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. 

This is CP's Young Adult Theatre show which means actors must be between the ages of 14 - 19 years old as of the first day of auditions (June 9, 2025).


Orpheus (Tenor): lyre-playing poet, gifted, naive. Looking for: Strong tenor, kind/energetic demeanor, guitar is a plus!


Eurydice (Mezzo-Soprano/Alto): a runaway, tough, vulnerable. Looking for: Strong belt, strong-willed


Hades (Bass): compulsive industrialist, boss-king of Hadestown. Looking for: Rich voice, strong presence


Persephone (Mezzo-Soprano/Alto): queen of nature and the seasons, a lush. Looking for: Strong voice, willingness to explore


Hermes (Alto/Baritone): Charismatic guide and storyteller, mentor to Orpheus Note: This part has been played by both male and female presenting actors. Gender will not be a determining factor in casting. Looking for: Tremendous stage presence, good rhythm


Fates (Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto): three sisters, vicious and delicious, voices in the head. Looking for: Strong voices and musicality, willingness to explore,  instruments are a plus!


Workers (All Voice Parts): spirits of labor and community, a physical and choral presence. Looking for: strong voices and physicality,  drive to create a strong ensemble
